Yester-eve Miss HELL YA! Heather and I got to work on the flyer for the LE SAC VS PIP show at the Roxy whilst watching some Arrested Development and 30 Rock. Being that neither of us were joining the crowds of sweaty people in Austin this week, we decided that it would be a good time to relax- yet we somehow ended up working... I don't think Heather nor I know how to "not work"...
I am actually really excited about this show... I have been listening to LeSac VS Pip on their myspace and I am sad that I will be missing this show... But I know you will all have a blast. Make sure to hit up your local ticketmaster for some tickets before they sell out!
I am sure Heather will have more to say about this later....
Anyway, I just thought I would take this opportunity to say "Hey", introduce myself (since I now have access to post on here) and post the flyer...
this is just getting rediculous . . . i guess i could say i told ya so. woot!
yeah so i really love when i get to 'toot my own horn' when it comes to predicting future hit songs, and bands about to break. well actually that is what i get paid to do, so i should be good at it. it's a matter of how MUCH i get to do.
i can't wait till one day i will be able to sign all the passion projects i pitch, such as ERIC HUTCHINSON, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, DAN LE SAC VS. SCROOBIUS PIP, PLUSHGUN, FRANKMUSIK, MAN LIKE ME, etc . . . you get the hint.
I have been seeing INGRID MICHAELSON all over the place lately - - - this makes me laugh and smile really big. you might not believe me on this one, so I've emailed Ingrid to confirm this. I got her cd way back before she got her first TV placements. I read about her on a blog, and fell in love with the cd. It's just one of those cd's that you can't take off. I listened to it all the way through, and she was different. she had swagger, and a natural voice that spoke to me. and most of all I believed her.
I reached out to her, and apparently I was the first industry person to do so, and she emailed asking me if she could ask me questions and advice. Of course I love to hear myself talk - - haha - especially when it comes to the music biz. So I called her and we talked for about an hour, and I reccomended a few great NYC lawyers, yada yada and other good stuff.
Cut to now, and she is ubersuccessfull. I ran into her after her Hotel Cafe show, and I asked if she still had that initial email exchange, as I would love to save it for the book someday. I love to compile stuff like that, just incase.
So Ingrid, Congrats!!!!! It couldn't happen to a nicer girl. I'm so excited for you, and I hope I can still get a ticket to your next LA show @ the Troub on Jan 24th. HAHA It's probably sold out by now -- but if you haven't seen her or heard her tunes on VH1, Greys Anatomy, Old Navy, etc... then wake up and smell the freakin coffee!!!

Hell Ya! Ingrid! Woot!
oh yeah and check out my new hair do - - - it's pretty fun! i'm excited! what do you think???
Oh yeah did anybody see KATE NASH last night at the troub? I would have gone but 1) it was sold out, and 2) i've already seen her at club YO YO in london which was pretty sweet.
I'm very curious as to how the show went . . . Foundhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifations is a huge hit song - but is she great live? She wasn't when I saw her. I LOOOOOOVE the song, but I remember thinking she was nothing special live. (but that was also over 1 yr ago) COmments please - what do you think of Ingrid, my new hair (haha i'm so vain now!), and do you like KATE NASH?
I have a number of valid excuses I could tell you about why I have been MIA recently . . . here are a few:
1) i've been taking a mini-break, including heading home to PIttsburgh PA for the holidays (where I basically ate a shit-ton of meat and potatoes, slept, ate again, then took a nap from the food coma, and so on . . . . ) 2) more sleeping and eating here in la 3) bumming out over my recent breakup with the boyfriend . . . boo. (note to self - don't fall in love with a musician that will eventually become successful and tour 90% of the year! DUH! should have seen that one coming . . . ) exibit A:
while I prepare for a possible interview to keep my job (haha gotta love major label layoff season!) here are a few sweet videos from bands I'm still stuck on: (which means check them out now and tell your friends before it's old news!)
the obvious:
Kate Nash 'Foundations' (see her this monday at the Troub before she blows up!)
(and if this is a first hearing about kate nash, shame on your for not listening to my podcast! it's the #1st track on Hell Ya! Podcast Volume 2.0! you can still listen by clicking HERE

Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip TONIGHT & Tomorrow! Plus more shows this week!!
holy crapola. is it me or is there a buttload of great shows from now until xmas break?
i thought it was sopossed to be the slow season . . . but i guess not for the music biz! looks like it's 'no sleep till december 22nd' for me! i'll be able to catch a few zzzzzz's from the 22nd - 27th while in pittsburgh, visiting the family. (freezing my ass off!!)
i'm sure while i'm there i will try to squeeze in some business, like visiting gregg gillis (girltalk), the band SHADE (who are so good, especially if you have taste like Jax - ROCKINSIDER & Kevin Bronson - shoegazer indie rock dream band)
so from now until the 22nd - here is my tentative schedule. i'm sure every day i will add more shows/parties to the schedule, as i suck at planning ahead.
monday, december 17th:

Scroobius Pip @ Cinespace this one is a must. i am so jealous i didn't get this show. boooooo to me. i give myself a big 'hell no' for dropping the ball. oh well, can't get em all. maybe next time. since i've already exausted posting his last 2 videos both HERE and HERE, how about his new video (which uses some radiohead as the backing track - - nice and ballsy! i wonder if they got clearance for that - - and if so how much??)
thursday, december 20th: more to follow . . . post suggestions in the comment section! :)
friday, december 21st: again - more to follow . . .
saturday, december 22nd - 27th: xmas in Pittsburgh (BRRRRRR!!!)
friday, december 28th: back in business! haven't even thought about my schedule this far in advance . . . any suggestions? what is everyone doing for NYC? I need something AWESOME. There maybe a pittsburgh slim show in the works, and i know about the Steve Aoki bigbash w/ all the cooltastic kids . . . but I want something BIG. Last year Kevin Bronson took me as his date to the Paramount Lot party - where the KILLERS performed. It was AWESOME!! I want that action!! Anybody???
Ok Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip, you had me at 'Beat'
Remember that kitchy awesome clever track over the summer called "Thou Shault Always Kill"?
well turns out they are wayyyyy more than just a clever one hit wonder. this track is amaaaazing. i can't stop listening to it. thanks mollie for the heads up on this track, as i only knew of Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip from my original post HERE.
and just incase you didn't click the link above to read my last post about the band - - i'll make it easy and post the video again below. here is 'The Track that made Le Sac Hit' (haha) or 'the tipping point'. Well done guys. I'll most likely buy this album on Itunes & VINYL. VINYL VINYL VINYL. This will make a great gift album as well. Especially the hard to please cooltastic DJ's you want to impress. ;)
"Thou Shault Always Kill" Vs. "New York Is So Cool"
here's a song that is so funny and clever that it will shoot to be #1 most requested song faster than you can say 'united states of whatever'. (or 'everybody's free to wear sunscreen')
Thou shalt not steal if there is direct victim. Thou shalt not worship pop idols or follow lost prophets. Thou shalt not take the names of Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer, Johnny Hartman, Desmond Decker, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix or Syd Barret in vain. Thou shalt not think that any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a peadophile… Some people are just nice. Thou shalt not read NME. Thall shalt not stop liking a band just because they’ve become popular. Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry. Thou shalt not judge a book by it’s cover. Thou shalt not judge Lethal Weapon by Danny Glover. Thall shalt not buy Coca-Cola products. Thou shalt not buy Nestle products. Thou shalt not go into the woods with your boyfriend’s best friend, take drugs and cheat on him. Thou shalt not fall in love so easily. Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into girls’ pants. Use it to get into their heads. Thou shalt not watch Hollyoakes. Thou shalt not attend an open mic and leave as soon as you're done just because you’ve finished your shitty little poem or song you self-righteous prick. Thou shalt not return to the same club or bar week in, week out just ’cause you once saw a girl there that you fancied but you’re never gonna fucking talk to.
Thou shalt not put musicians and recording artists on ridiculous pedestals no matter how great they are or were.
The Beatles - Were just a band. Led Zepplin - Just a band. The Beach Boys - Just a band. The Sex Pistols - Just a band. The Clash - Just a band. Crass - Just a band. Minor Threat - Just a band. The Cure - Just a band. The Smiths - Just a band. Nirvana - Just a band. The Pixies - Just a band. Oasis - Just a band. Radiohead - Just a band. Bloc Party - Just a band. The Arctic Monkeys - Just a band. The next big thing - JUST A BAND.
Thou shalt give equal worth to tragedies that occur in non-English speaking countries as to those that occur in English speaking countries. Thou shalt remember that guns, bitches and bling were never part of the four elements and never will be.
Thou shalt not make repetitive generic music
Thou shalt not make repetitive generic music
Thou shalt not make repetitive generic music
Thou shalt not make repetitive generic music
Thou shalt not pimp my ride. Thou shalt not scream if you wanna go faster. Thou shalt not move to the sound of the wickedness. Thou shalt not make some noise for Detroit. When I say “Hey” thou shalt not say “Ho”. When I say “Hip” thou shalt not say “Hop”. When I say "he say, she say, we say, make some noise" - kill me. Thou shalt not quote me happy. Thou shalt not shake it like a polaroid picture. Thou shalt not wish your girlfriend was a freak like me. Thou shalt spell the word “Pheonix” P-H-E-O-N-I-X not P-H-O-E-N-I-X, regardless of what the Oxford English Dictionary tells you. Thou shalt not express your shock at the fact that Sharon got off with Bradley at the club last night by saying “Is it”. Thou shalt think for yourselves.
there's always one of these types of songs a year (at least) . . . so funny and clever that they become #1 most requested song faster than you can say 'the united states of whatever'.
"thou shalt always kill" sounds like this year's LCD Soundsystem"Loosing My Edge" or better yet, X-1"New York Is So Cool". remember that one? "New York Is So Cool" was going to be my first release on HELL YA! Records, but the fake band imploded before making a dime. Bummer. I heard the track playing in the background at a party, and I asked everyone who the artist was . . . I met 2 out of the 3 guys involved in making the track, and asked if I could get a copy. We aggreed if I could get the track on radio, then I could release the single (as my first release) on Hell Ya! Records. (note, nothing was signed, and I still hadn't met the singer of the 'band') I passed the track out to all my radio friends, put the song on mixes, and in a matter of weeks - the song was all over LA, NYC & UK radio stations. It went to #1 most requested song on Indie 103.1, and got a bunch of Airplay on RADIO 1 (here's one of many ZANE LOWE TRACKLISTINGS w/ the Song) I did however get some good press (LA Times, NME, various blogs . . ) The 'fake' band X-1 got a TON of BLOGGER love, like this post from STEREOGUM. I learned alot from this 'one-hit' wonder experience - now I don't even THINK about giving out the single until I get some sort of contract in writing. Learn from my mistakes. :)
