I know I haven't blogged since the 80's, sorry bout that. Shame on me. I'm such a bad blogger! Here's how I'll make it up to you - - with a slew of mp3's showcasing my current favorite bands covering other great bands..... who doesn't love a good cover! i used to make full Hell Ya! Mixes of just cover songs, and I love when an artist like KATY PERRY covers a band like MGMT.

sunday and monday - - best days ever? first MTV Movie Awards - - - then COLDPLAY! HELLYA.
so yeah every once and a while you have a revelation - - or at least i do - - and i just ponder on how freakin AWESOME my life is sometimes!
does that ever happen to you? well i am constantly thanking my lucky stars at where i am today, but i didn't get here on just luck. i know some of you out there must just hate me - - - as it seems i'm always bragging about something awesome that i'm up to, or going to, or about to do - - yadada
anywhoo - - this is one of those posts! so if you hate when i starting bragging - - just skip this post altogether. haha
here's a bunch of reasons why this past SUNDAY and MONDAY kicked major ass:
THIS SUNDAY:
1) MY BAND I got signed to Capitol Records DUKES OF DAVILLE was featured in the MTV MOVIE AWARDS. **BIGGGGG ASSS THANK YOU TO BEN @ MTV - he was the one responsible for pitching dukes to his producer bosses, so he RULES. He has excellent taste in music, and p.s. he's really really hot too! bonus!)
2) I ended up getting TICKETS to the MTV MOVIE AWARDS at the last minute! **BIGGGGG ASSS HUGE THANK YOU TO MITCHELL FRANK (mayor of silverlake / ala he basically started all things spaceland/echo/malo/etc.....)
here were some highlights of the MTV MOVIE AWARDS - - which were surprisingly very good - - funny - - and it was sooooo exciting to see the band I signed being played when Zac Efron won for 'Breakthrough Performance' for his role in HAIRSPRAY:
and after all that - - how could it get any better?
THIS MONDAY:
3) Mostly everyone that knows me and reads this blog should know I work for Capitol Records - - one of the main reasons I work there is because of the band COLDPLAY. Coldplay, Radiohead, & of course THE BEATLES. So - - - it was a great surprise to be invited to attend the COLDPLAY show @ JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE.
this was very exciting as I actually attended COLDPLAY @ JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE the first time around which was JIMMY KIMMEL's FIRST SHOW! (this was when I worked @ KROQ, and my former boss - who taught me everything i know - AMY STEVENS was the one that booked Coldplay - - like in 1 day or something! It was bananas. Superbowl sunday, they closed off the streets - - just jam packed full of action.
This time around - - it felt more intimate - - maybe since I was about 2 feet away from the band! hahahaha I took this photo with my IPHONE:
yep. be jealous. my life rules this week. but i do in fact work hard for the money. i go big - or i don't go at all. hard work does pay off - and no matter what - i still turn into a superduper dorky fan when i see bands like COLDPLAY/RADIOHEAD up close in person. This was very special, and I think you MAGGIE SIKKENS for giving me your ticket - - I have great friends (just in this post - i'm thanking BEN @ MTV, MITCHELL @ SPACELAND, MAGGIE @ CAPITOL, damn - - i got HOOKED UP this week!
Hell Ya! and despite what anyone says - - i can't wait to hear the new coldplay record - - it doesn't matter if they don't have huge radio 'singles' = = if coldplay pooped in a bag - - i would probably buy it. haha.
A big thank you to those of you who made it out to Miss Peggs' birthday Friday before last.
The highlights of the evening are countless so we'll let the photos from the night do most of the talking... there was plenty of dancing, singing, drinking, hugging, kissing and yes even a frighteningly large banana.
There were also some stellar performances by Illegal Substance, Hockey, The Growlers and special guests DUKES OF DAVILLE!!

Yeah he does! I almost tripped up the stairs of club 86 last night when I saw Bret at the decks - - - I said to Ana 'hey wow that guy looks like Bret from Flight Of The Conchords! Funny!' and she's all 'It Is!' HAHAHA I turned into a 15 yr old girl, all giggles and giddy, wanting a photo for my new default. So before I dorked out and asked for a pic, i ran into the girls bathroom to fix my hair, makeup & make sure my perfume/deodorant was holding up . . . (i always have a mini febreze spritzer just incase!!) Even though it was 99 degrees in the womens restroom, i gave myself a quick bouffant (thanks cass for the lessons! i love it!) so here is the results - - i'm really happy with the turnout - - it looks like we are a cute couple or something: (wishful thinking!)
Don't we look good together? Yeah i think so too. Bret, call me, and i'll give you that tour of Capitol Records that i promised. (that's my usual pickup line - - - 'hey do you want to go to the roof of the Capitol Records tower?? um yeah - I could hook that up! Lets go!') WORKS EVERY TIME!
enough about that - - lets talk about TONIGHT! It's my b-day and i'm having all my new favorite bands on one bill! Come on down to Spaceland and celebrate with me!

What Happens In Vegas (movie preview) i'm sure you have seen all these commercials already - - - everyone has been calling me saying they heard Metro Station 'Shake It' in the same movie spots as well!
So either that music supervisor is either A) super awesome and apparently we love the same shit, i need to get in touch. or B) is my friend/and or a music supervisor that I've already been in touch with - both Dukes & Metro have been on about every Hell Ya! Mix of the past year!

Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your work come to fruition. I am still in shock that I'm even INVOLVED in this project, it's too damn good! Turns out everything ALWAYS happens for a reason, and I was meant to do just this! I just can't wait till I can play it for everyone I know!! (you know i will now anyways - - that's just how i do things. the more people that know about it - the better right???? with that said, here's my new favorite dukes track - shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

that dance is a bit more complicated than the Cupid Shuffle - - finally something to really get down with. I'm so into the dance thing - - I can't wait until the DUKES OF DAVILLE album comes out! (they are the band I signed to my label - Hell Ya! and now they are signed to CAPITOL! yay!) JUSTYOUWAIT!!! I'm willing to place bets that it is going to BLOWTHEFUCKUP! mmmmmmmm. pittsburgh slim. he definatly has a way with words. or with looks. or something. all i know is - i was innocently dancing with him and his friend (who happened to be a cute girl) at his listening party. then all of a sudden - once 'GIRLS KISS GIRLS' starts playing - out of nowhere - he somehow gets me to make out with his girlfriend! WTF! I'm sooooooooo not usually into that, i mean i like boys! alot! i've never been with a girl (though a few have tried!) but when pittsburgh slim is around - - i guess anything goes! he's a hottie, with some serious special powers.
after i sober up a bit, i'm getting ready to say goodbye - so i grab my throwaway digital camera to snap a shot of me & slim. point, shoot, woah - - he throws me a kiss. HOT. damn he sure knows how to treat his friends/fans/etc... ;) (looks like I might need a few more pictures of us later on . . . i don't think i had the flash on right . . . it looks a bit out of focus . . . oops that time i closed my eyes . . . ok one more time and that's it i swear . . . . hee hee.)

I had an amazing today today. I can't stop smiling. First off, after 3 years of working at a major record label, as of TODAY, I signed my first band! This is HUGGGE news, especially because it was a band that I SIGNED to my own indie record label! HELL YA! Records!

On top of finally feeling validated at my job by signing my first band to Capitol, I am super excited to see my boyfriend tomorrow - who has been touring for nearly a month. (dating a musician is really HARD!) I'm constantly missing him, but it is true that distance makes the heart grow fonder. I would rather been in a hard situation with him, than an easy situation with somebody else.
I'm going to try to start a new feature on this blog called SONG OF THE DAY. This may or may not happen every day, but only when I hear a song that makes me compelled enought to write about it! So . . . first up is a shocker. Stay with me. Have you heard the new Linkin Park single called 'Shadow Of The Day'? I heard on KROQ today and fell in love with the song before I realized it was Linkin Park!! HAHA. By the time I figured it out, I was already sold and ready to hear it on repeat. Who is responsible for this gem? Why Rick Rubin of course!! He did it again! How did he turn a band I wrote off years ago, into a band I put on my Hell Ya! mixes and blog?!? Same thing happened when I heard the Dixie Chicks.

I have been holding in some HUGE news about Dukes Of Daville, who are my latest signing to HELL YA! Records . . .(i HAVE learned from my mistakes - like my last post about X-1 "new york is so cool", so I kept silent so I wouldn't jinx it!)
Drumroll please . . . HELL YA! Records band DUKES OF DAVILLE have their single "Steady" (baby) featured in the movie PERFECT STRANGER in theatres Now! The film came out this past Friday the 13th, and stars Halle Berry & Bruce Willis. *(HUGEEEE thanks go to Nic for pitching the song in the film, and BIG time thanks go to my BF & Lawyer Leslie Frank!!! I owe you both Bigtime. Leslie, the check is in the mail.)
I went to see the movie opening day with Blake, which was so exciting! (so bummed JG had to work, since she has alot to do with this project!! ) I was still nervous, thinking they took out the song at the last minute . . . but sure enough, not even 5 minutes into the movie, Dukes Of Daville "Steady Baby" chimes in the background of a bar scene. It happens to be the FIRST song used in the movie! They use alot of the song too!(about 2 min 30 secs!)
Go see this movie, and make sure to pay attention to the first 5 min! (turn up your hearing aid! It's a hit!) Then make sure to stay until the VERYYYYYY end to see HELL YA! Records listed in the movie credits!!! HAHAHA. Or you can just wait for the DVD. :)
Today was a good day, and tonight will be even better . . . I have a feeling I will be seeing some old friends tonight. I am going to celebrate with Scott Sterling for his 10th Anniversary of booking THE FOLD! I can't wait to see HELL YA! favorites CASTLEDOOR play right before the 'special guests'! Who's the band? I'm not one to leak a surprise, (hahaha) but I have to leave now to make a pit stop @ SILVERSUN LIQUOUR before heading to the SILVERLAKE LOUNGE in the great city of SILVERLAKE. How many times can I say SILVERLAKE or SILVERSUN in one paragraph? Oh and make set your TIVO's to see SILVERSUN PICKUPS on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE tonight!!! HELL YA.
