wow check out the new Hell Ya gig poster for this thursday . . . damn it's good stuff
check out the poster! yay! so excited for the show guys :)
wooooohoooooooo
ivan minsloff is the artist - and evan volk is badass for finding him. (since evan came on board to work for me @ hell ya - we are expanding like crazy. thanks for getting my shit together evan - anyone that can deal with me 24/7 deserves a prize.)
my favorite band and album of 2008 so far is . . .
take a look at your new favorite band!
THE MAE-SHI are a local LA band I've been aware of for the past 4 or 5 years, first time hearing about them from the now-defunct band called THE MEAN REDS. (remember those kids?! so cute, so young, but so loud and craaaaazypants! Anyways, back to the story . . . The Mae-Shi I was always aware of, I was just too stubborn and shallow minded to revisit their sound in the past 5 years. I didn't think I would like the Mae-Shi . . . but turns out! BOY WAS I WRONG! As of right now, The Mae-Shi have my vote for my favorite album of 2008 so far! (***and NO, it isn't because of the album title 'HLLL YH', nor is it because my middle name is MAE, nor is it because they are headlining the next Hell Ya! Night this month, February 28th @ the ECHO! BE THERE!!!)
Luckily I had a few 'signs' that pointed me in the right direction. My close friend JERRY, whom music taste I value more than any other, had me drive him home so he could grab his copy of "HLLL YH' and play me his favorite tracks. He was so passionate about this band that he wanted to see my reaction - listening to the MAE-SHI for the first time. Now that is EXACTLY the type of thing I would do! I live for these types of moments, where you get-off on seeing somebody else discover your favorite band for the first time. It's the sole reason I have this blog, book my Hell Ya! club nights, record my podcasts, compile, burn and pass out my hell ya! mixes etc... and on and on....
so yeah just watch the Mae-Shi video below (which they made themselves!!), buy the new album, and come see them as they headline this month's Hell Ya! @ the Echo, Thursday, February 28th! HELLL YA!!!!!
haha. everytime I look at the album cover - I can't help but laugh, as it looks so similar to my Hell Ya! logo. Between that and the correct spelling of MAE with an E - just as my middle name is spelled (Heather Mae Peggs) It's like they are speaking DIRECTLY TO ME. HAHA. HEY MAE-SHI - - I'm listening ;) Welcome to the future indeed.
my new macbook! videos i love + more shows this week!
First off - a bigggggggg time thank you to STEVE BRIGHT over at the Apple Store in Glendale! He saved my life - well he literally saved my computer - which is my life. So while my Powerbook is in Computer Rehab for too many illegal downloads (jk - i just really beat that thing up!) I now have this new AMAAAAZING Macbook - it's Black and beautiful. sooooo many new features, my brother PHIL just somehow connected with my computer and could take over the screen via IM. what a great feature - especially for computer retards like me, who can't even figure out how to send an email from my .mac account! haha anyhoo - - i'm back with my new computer and all i want to do is work/blog/and surf the net!
here are a few sweet videos i've been watching on repeat:
SNOOP DOGG 'Sensual Seduction' video (AMAAAZING. thanks Mitchell @ spaceland for the tip. this video is genius!) *p.s. why the hell does Universal block all of the embedded codes on Youtube? don't they know that somebody will post it again - so why don't you just let us help you promote your own artists! help us help YOU!
PITTSBURGH SLIM IS THE SHIT PASS IT ON! ***He's playing the ROXY TOMORROW NIGHT! You are bound to see alot of Lipstick lesbians there -- this time it won't be me! hahahaha
and speaking of LMFAO - - make sure to check out the making of "This Is My Life" video with HYPERCRUSH Vs. LMFAO (and I have a cameo! woohoo!)
HYPERCRUSH Vs. LMFAO the making of THIS IS MY LIFE! video (*listen up for my laugh around the 5:40 mark. haha) Come see them play it live @ the ROXY on FRIDAY! Then I need to borrow a time machine w/ flux capacitor to transport me to th ECHO to see this: WAIT THINK FAST (which happens to feature my super team of production Jaqueline & Matthew! Listen to their music on myspace HERE and listen to them on my podcast HERE.
Ok i have to pull myself away from my new mac and get ready!
oh yeah . . . does anybody have any suggestions for a really awesome DJ name for ME? IF so, post a comment here or my myspace page. DJ Heather Peggs needs an update . . . I've had suggestions, some good, some funny, and some rediculous.
Here are a few: DJ Hell Ya! ? Hell Ya! Deejay ? DJ Peg Leg - - um NO. I'm not a pirate. DJ HAHAHA - this one is funny - and so true. DJ Gumby - I think i left this nickname back when I left KROQ.
SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS? CONCERNS? What videos are you into right now? Lets get some TYLER SHIELDS Style Comments going here!!! :)
Hell Ya! Tonight @ the Echo w/ CHRIS GARNEAU & Miniature Tigers!!! and it's FREEEE
oh man i am sooooo tired. i have had the busiest week ever. 3 hell ya nights in 6 days, plus concerts every other day. last night - KROQ acoustic xmas - maddness! it was the best acoustic I've ever seen - - more on that later!
My favorite LA band CASTLEDOOR are playing @ the ECHO tonight - they have the monday night residency all this month, so if you can't make it tonight, shoot for next monday.
You should see them before they are the next cold war kids, who were the next silversun pickups - - -you know what I mean. :)
They are amazing live - and if you aren't satisfied - I will give your money back.
HAHA. cause it's free - - see what I did there? hahahaha
They go on at 10:30. So I am telling myself they are playing at 10:15 - - cause I'm always at least 15 minutes late . . .
I can't wait till September 28th! Mark your calendars because - Hell Ya! & the Echo present 2 back to back GIRL TALK shows! (one early show, one late - late is already SOLD OUT) Gregg Gillis (aka Girl Talk) has come along way since his first LA show @ the Echo. He finally quit his day job (up until recently, he worked in pittsburgh as a biomedical engineer!!) Now he's busy selling out shows, remixing bands with his new side project TREY TOLD EM, and even taking meetings with State Congressmen! (Newsweek journalist Steven Levy and Congressman Mike Doyle flew to Pittsburgh to meet up with Girl Talk - read the story HERE)
He was featured in PLAYGIRL (no he's not naked - just topless plus an interview!) click HERE to see the photo spread . . . I mean, er, read the story!
Way to go GREGG! He's putting PITTSBURGH on the map!
Sea Wolf, The Bird @ The Bee, The Little Ones this Friday @ EchoPlex!
I'd hedge my bets that I'm going to be at the EchoPlex AGAIN this weekend. (I was just there DJing for The Walkmen show on Saturday. Which reminds me - why the F didn't The Walkmen play "Wake Up"? Um, you aren't Radiohead and "Wake Up" isn't CREEP, why not give the people what they want!) Anywhoo . . . have you been to this new venue yet? It's HUGE. Plus it's really pretty inside. You kinda forget you are in the basement of the Echo in Echo Park!
Thanks to Jennifer over @ ASCAP who told me about this Silver Lake Film Festival shindig this weekend. Who knew there were bands playing at a Film Festival? I didn't! I'd reccomend going this FRIDAY.
Next HELL YA! @ The Echo is April 26th w/ NICO VEGA!
I know this date falls on the Thursday before Coachella weekend, so come and pregame before the big weekend @ Hell Ya! I guarentee you a good time, and of course, great music.
If you are looking to see some good music, come to the ECHO to see the UK band WHITEY!
Nathan (Mr. Whitey himself) has a new album, and it's great. Until I'm allowed clearance to post a new track, check out the video that first got me hooked.
And if you are already a Whitey fan, you may be a fan of Nathan's guitar player Julian. He's got his own solo project called SHAH. He's playing this SUNDAY @ the Mint. I'll have a tough decision on which show to pick this sunday, Julian @ the Mint? or take a drive to see Metro Station in Newport Beach . . . hmmmmmmmmmm.
