holy crap i've been a bad blogger . . . but i have a hell of an update!

ok wow - i haven't blogged since the 80's or something - - or so it feels like! sorry for the lack of communication and updates. although, if you are on my facebook friend's list - - you have probably seen my rediculous updates (such as going to parties w/ Ryan Seacrest, meeting JC from Nsync at my club night, running into Bret from Flight Of The Conchords again @ the secret BECK show, going to the KATY PERRY carnival @ capitol records for her release party, recording w/ Jeffree Star & Danger Radio, seeing COLDPLAY do a long practice and set @ Jimmy Kimmel Live, you get the picture . . . )

i've been having a blast and soooooo busy lately. it seems too smooth actually - - i'm waiting for some shit to hit the fan. i'm not used to everything going my way without a huge fight. haha. if you worked 6 yrs @ KROQ, and 4 yrs @ Capitol Records to date you would probably feel the same. it's been a constant struggle to get people to really pay attention, and now, i believe everyone is really listening. If not now, maybe soon enough you can be just watching . . . stay tuned! ;)

SO work is going really well - - i most recently came across this cute video of DUKES OF DAVILLE - check it out - - Matt Mahaffey (my favorite producer - and the reason I found out about the Dukes) tells the same story I do, about how I played him Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' and he responds with playing me DUKES OF DAVILLE 'Steady'! the rest is history!

I am so excited about this record - - Dukes Of Daville are going to be huge! It's so good, that I can't believe I'm even involved. I used to get frustrated about not being able to sign bands, being A&R for the past 4 years at a major record label - - but not anymore! it's about quality, not quantity.

this is just getting rediculous . . . i guess i could say i told ya so. woot!

yeah so i really love when i get to 'toot my own horn' when it comes to predicting future hit songs, and bands about to break. well actually that is what i get paid to do, so i should be good at it. it's a matter of how MUCH i get to do.

i can't wait till one day i will be able to sign all the passion projects i pitch, such as ERIC HUTCHINSON, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, DAN LE SAC VS. SCROOBIUS PIP, PLUSHGUN, FRANKMUSIK, MAN LIKE ME, etc . . . you get the hint.

I have been seeing INGRID MICHAELSON all over the place lately - - - this makes me laugh and smile really big. you might not believe me on this one, so I've emailed Ingrid to confirm this. I got her cd way back before she got her first TV placements. I read about her on a blog, and fell in love with the cd. It's just one of those cd's that you can't take off. I listened to it all the way through, and she was different. she had swagger, and a natural voice that spoke to me. and most of all I believed her.

I reached out to her, and apparently I was the first industry person to do so, and she emailed asking me if she could ask me questions and advice. Of course I love to hear myself talk - - haha - especially when it comes to the music biz. So I called her and we talked for about an hour, and I reccomended a few great NYC lawyers, yada yada and other good stuff.

Cut to now, and she is ubersuccessfull. I ran into her after her Hotel Cafe show, and I asked if she still had that initial email exchange, as I would love to save it for the book someday. I love to compile stuff like that, just incase.

So Ingrid, Congrats!!!!! It couldn't happen to a nicer girl. I'm so excited for you, and I hope I can still get a ticket to your next LA show @ the Troub on Jan 24th. HAHA It's probably sold out by now -- but if you haven't seen her or heard her tunes on VH1, Greys Anatomy, Old Navy, etc... then wake up and smell the freakin coffee!!!

Last Wednesday I head over to wins tons, to check out DJ Bizzy spin. First person I see as I'm exiting the bathroom - - BRITNEY SPEARS!! Sunglasses - Check, Slutty crazy can/can pussycat doll costume with fishnets? CHECK. Lollipop in her mouth - - CHECK. I felt like I was in a live version of US weekly. Craaaaazypants. I have never seen Britney in person, so for me it was like seeing a Unicorn or Santa Claus or something. I kept staring, trying not too, stalling over the sink while washing my hands for the 5th time . . . how embarrassing. o well, at least my hands have never been cleaner!! haha

later in the night, i see the bartender wearing the same exact outfit/costume as Britney. WTF? 2 red slutty hooker/can-can outfits with black fishnets at the same party? nope! Britney paid the bartender $200 to change outfits with her! HAHAHAHA
Amazing.

So that was my Wednesday Night @ Winston's. That was nothing compared to my Saturday night @ GREEN ACRES!


IAMX 'President' video

This video goes out to President Bill Clinton and perhaps the future President Hillary Clinton - whom I didn't get to meet while at Green Acres, but, at least I was at the same Party!!! My boss is friends with the Clinton's, so I got to watch as he was tapped on the shoulder and whisked away to the super duper vip section of the estate. I can't wait till I get tapped on the shoulder - as an invite - instead of a 'please the exit is right this way miss'. That will be fun.

So I'm sure you are wondering, how in the HELL was I anywhere near Bill and Hillary? I was there because of my boy Evan - who works with me, for me, and is now becoming a better version of me - especially when it comes to networking. He knows pretty much everyone. And if he doesn't know them today, he will figure out how to know them by tomorrow if I needed him to! His blog is hilarious - check it out HERE! (Now if he could only bring back the Aussie accent when tipsy - that was the best!)
Back to the party - - so yeah - I got to ERIC HUTCHINSON for the event! (fyi - last year Michael Buble was the performer) This was the 2nd annual Ronald McDonald House 'wine & fries' charity event. It was held at the RON BURKLE estate (ginormous mansion) called "Green Acres". The event was hosted by Rick Dees (which was AWESOME as I grew up listening to his Weekly Top 40 every week!) It was really awesome seeing Rick Dees introduce and hanging with ERIC HUTCHINSON! Plus I got to bring a gaggle of guests! It seemed like we had our own section! haha
(P.S. Louie Bandak - yes you are my favorite capitol employee, and I owe you one. Louie Bandak is the man.)

(big time thanks again to Evan for hooking it up Presidential style, but next time you better hook it up for the after-after party w/ Bill & Hill! Come on!)

Eric Hutchinson is pretty good . . . ;)

I get comfort knowing that I tried 130987695% on this. I even wore the ERIC HUTCHINSON is PRETTY GOOD t-shirt to work during the meeting. Eric was my FIRST showcase for Capitol Records almost 2 1/2 or maybe even 3 years ago. That didn't go as planned, but I kept on keepin on. I will always be Eric Hutchinson's biggest fan. (and NO - i did not get with him if that is what you are thinking! i am just a fan)

so yeah - mark my words - it's eric hutchinson's time NOW. just check out this new song - one that i am DYING to get my hands on. dave? carter? eric? steve basilone - u have a copy? anybody? this song rules!! Go Eric! I hope you become bigger than John mayer and start Dating Jessica Simpson or something. ;)

Last night's show @ Hotel Cafe had the biggest line I'd ever seen at the club. Craaaazyyyyyyypants. It was even more packed than when I saw SIA there back in 06.

If somebody dropped a bomb on the hotel cafe last night, half of the music business would be wiped out.
Here's my shoutouts: the A&R peeps I saw (MM,KK,TC,CA,plusmore, Label Promo Peeps (KP thanks for the drinks!), Radio PD's (what's up MS!), lawyers (JL always at the best shows), booking agents (big shout out to jon moore @ apa - hopeudigthemix!), managers (carter & dave you rule), MARKO (booker of hotel cafe), and of course my highschool buddy STEVE BASILONE (412!) who is responsible for telling me about Eric in the first place. that's all - congrats eric!!!! :)
